Cleaning Wool Pile Rugs At Home

Many people are not aware that wool rugs can be cleaned at home. This usually gets them by surprise to hear that the cleaning does not have to be done elsewhere. All that is required is following the instructions stated by the manufacturer. However, these instructions are only available for small and average sized wool rugs. The large ones do not have such information.
Below are some of the things that you will require to clean your rug.
* A vacuum cleaner
* Detergent
* Towels
* Sponge
* Stain remover
Here are the steps that you follow when cleaning wool rugs at home.
Clean both sides of the rug completely. Use the stain remover to clean any visible stains and in a dim lit area test for colour fastness.
Place the wool rug in an open area outside preferably on a clean surface. Add a mild cleaner to a pail of water and whip up suds.
A clean sponge should be used to clean the rugs as you gently wipe it. Use clean water to remove all the soapy detergent completely, make sure you do not over wet the rug, this can stain or shrink the pile.
Use paper towels to blot up and remove any excess water.
The wool rug / rugs should then be laid flat to dry, make sure both sides are dry and do not leave the rug to long in the sun to avoid loss of their original colour.
However, there are some safety measures that should be taken into consideration while cleaning wool rugs. These are;
A detergent with low suds is more appropriate as it does not need to be rinsed.
A detergent with a basic ph is preferred while cleaning the wool rug.
A wool rug should be cleaned after every one to one and a half years.
A wool rugs should not be cleaned using steam to prevent them from shrinking in size.
