Sparkle rugs are a relatively new type of rug, they were first imported into the UK in large quantity’s around 7 years ago, one of the original rugs was our Sparkle Heavy Weight this is still our best selling sparkle range.
So what makes sparkle rugs so popular and how have they progressed over the last few years?
In my opinion they were inspired by shaggy rugs which have been around since the fifty’s and sixties and are still very popular, sparkle rugs added that step into a more contemporary looking rug that could blend with shiny soft furnishing and chrome / stainless furniture. The light reflecting yarn which is usually viscose or polyester adds a gloss, shiny appearance that emits warmth and glamour, ideal for the ever so popular modern décors and contemporary living space, you only have to pick an interiors magazine to realise the modern look is here to stay!
So what’s new, manufactures are constantly looking for new ideas and as yarn spinning and technology moves forward so do sparkle ranges and yarn construction.
The main advance is to combine different yarns into one rug, this can add to textures and pile heights, the different yarns normal used to achieve this are thick spun yarn, micro fibre yarn, loop pile yarn and lurex. Colour’s are also been updated, new colours such as Sapphire, Damson, Sienna and Pewter have recently been added to our ranges.
Sparkle rugs are sure to keep advancing and are here to stay for the foreseeable future.
